Kitchens for Commercial Use: Getting the Right Design

A commercial kitchen is a large-sized kitchen that is found in schools, hospitals, restaurants and hotels. These hotels are larger in size and they are different from domestic kitchens in a number of aspects. Their productivity is way more than those found in your homes. When it comes to designing a commercial kitchen, a number of
factors should be taken into mind.

While you are free to design your private kitchen according to your own needs and taste, a commercial kitchen cannot be designed in this way. There are a number of things that need to be taken care of while designing these types of kitchens. Since there are often more than two chefs working in this kitchen, the designers have to make sure they don’t become a hurdle for each other.

The configuration of appliances is such that they are easily accessible for everyone working. It will be even better if you have separate areas for cooking separate kinds of foods like fish and meats. The location of appliances and machinery is of utmost important here. It does not make any sense to locate them on areas where they have no use. Appliances like microwave oven should be in reach of every person, as they belong to everyone.

The floors of these larger kitchens are always messy because there are a number of people working on them at a time. These kitchen produce more excess water so there should be proper arrangement to drain this water otherwise it would make a pond on the floor and nobody will be able to do its job efficiently. The floor should not be slippery. You should know that there are many dangerous items in these kitchens like sharp knives that can seriously damage any person.

The area and size is also important because you are trying to make a working environment for lots of people. There should be proper arrangements of lights and air. No one can deny the importance of windows on these types of working areas. The windows bring fresh breeze in that will allow chefs to work in normal temperatures. It will also keep them safe from problems regarding sweating. They will release a large amount of heat, so they need a constant supply of fresh air that will be provided by windows.

The lighting is very important here. Instead of decorating the kitchen with unnecessary small and beautiful lights, you will install large sized lights here that allow chefs to work easily. Here, you need to focus more on facility rather than beauty. The purpose should be to facilitate those who are to use this kitchen.  Give priority to those lighting systems that produce more brightness like paramount lights.
